Reasons why YOU should watch the Stanley Cup finals

- You might just like hockey. I grew up in a household where hockey was never mentioned. Then, I spent four glorious years at Miami University, an institution with an impressive hockey program. I went to a lot of games, fell in love with the team, and left with a new-found appreciation and love for the sport. You can do this, too. All it takes is time and passion. Pick a team, watch some games, cheer loudly. You will find yourself gradually learning about the rules and remembering the names of players.

- Cory Monteith loves the Canucks and he wants you to watch.

- Hockey is exciting. I promise. My dad maintains that the sport is incredibly boring because the final score could be 1-0. Although that’s true, that doesn’t mean the game is boring. Constant action, up and down the ice, incredible saves, huge hits, skillful passes, beautiful shots, fights. You may not like the sport, but you can’t say it’s boring.

- You don’t honestly like the NBA, do you?

- The Stanley Cup finals are intense. All but two of the last ten finals have gone to either six or seven games. In other words, you can’t count either team out.

- Glee and The Office are over for the season.

- The Vancouver Canucks have never won the Stanley Cup. However, they deserve it. They finished the regular season with the best record in the league.

- The Boston Bruins are one of the original six hockey teams.

- Ryan Kesler (Vancouver). Um, hi. If he doesn’t do it for you, check out Kevin Bieksa.

- You can intelligently join any conversation about the finals because you watched it, too.

- Because this commercial brought tears to your eyes.

- The Stanley Cup is probably the most hallowed sports trophy of all-time. This is coming from a huge football/Lombardi fan. I’m excluding an Olympic gold medal, of course. The Stanley Cup is such a storied trophy with an incredible history and amazing traditions.

- Beards. Lots of playoff beards that are weeks old and still going strong. Lumberjack central.

- Name another sport (excluding boxing, etc.) where players can get into an actual fist fight that the refs allow to continue.

- Vancouver’s Sedin twins will blow your mind.

- It’s still early in baseball season. You won’t miss a thing.

- The goalies are spectacular. It is physically impossible to dislike Boston’s Timmy Thomas and Roberto Luongo was Canada’s goalie during the Olympics. So, you might be familiar with the “LUUUUU” cheer already.

- Because you really want to know what a Bruin is. Or a Canuck for that matter.

- Zdeno Chara is either a monster or a very mobile tree.

- Milan Lucic (Boston). Again, hello. I’m sure some of you will like Tyler Seguin, too.

- Because you know what’s best for you.

So, how did I do? Are you convinced?
