Where do I apply for the Clue Crew?

The topic for day #2 of the Blogtober14 Challenge is: Dream job when you were little/What is it now?

Helene in Between Blogtober

When I was younger, I desperately wanted to be a singer. Not a Britney Spears-type, dancing pop singer, but a total diva, Whitney Houston-esque, stand-at-the-mic-and-belt singer. I would spend hours, listening to different songs and trying to imitate the voice of the performer. I even got in trouble from my parents for singing too much. Inspired by my fierce love of Belle and Pocahontas, I also really wanted to be the singing voice of a Disney princess.

When I was awarded with solos in second and third grade, I thought I was well on my way to securing my dream job. But by the time I entered high school, I had finally come to terms with the fact that my dream job simply wasn't realistic. The older I got, the more self-conscious I became and I realized that not only was the middle of Ohio not the ideal place for a blossoming performer, but my talent level wasn't quite up to par, either.

I sang in choir and a competition quartet throughout high school, but when I went to college, I was too terrified to audition for the various singing groups on campus. That is probably one of the biggest regrets of my life. Here's a small sample of my diva-type singing:

These days, I'm not really sure what my dream job is. I'd love to write about sports, preferably hockey, but those opportunities are limited, especially with newspapers downsizing. If I had my way, I'd write feature stories on hockey for a national outlet like Sports Illustrated or a website like Grantland. I also think it'd be awesome to help write the script of a sports show like HBO's Hard Knocks. On an unrelated note, I've also spent more time than I care to admit dreaming about writing clues for Jeopardy! Can you imagine the life of the clue crew? Unreal.

...oh, and I'd still like to be a Disney princess.

  1. You changed your blog around!! I love the new header! And, you're a beautiful singer. You could still be a Disney princess if you wanted to. Just like little Sara Crewe said: ALL girls are princess! :)

  2. Or, second thought: go join Jeopardy's clue writing team and talk people out of making "what women want" categories...
