Mommles the Pooh.

My favorite quote comes from a philosophical genius and one of my favorite childhood characters, Winnie the Pooh.

When I left for grad school two years ago, my amazing mom gave me the sweetest parting gift. She painstakingly colored a massive picture of Pooh and Tigger, printed out that quote, and glued it in the corner. Immediately, I melted into a blubbering, hysterical mess, second-guessing whether I should move by myself to a city where I knew exactly one person. When I finally regained my composure, I admitted that grad school was the right next step for me and reminded myself that home would only be two hours away.

So, with my heartfelt gift in hand, I moved the contents of my life into a tiny studio apartment in downtown Indianapolis. Two years later, a day doesn't go by where I don't look at this picture and smile.

And thanks to the difficult events of the last year, I have finally realized that my mom is right. I am brave. I am smart. But most surprisingly, I am strong. Stronger than I ever thought I could be. Oh, and my mom? She is always with me, firmly planted in the depths of my heart.

  3. What a lovely gift, I can imagine that would be so special. My aunt and uncle used to read Winnie the Pooh to me before bed as a child and I remember so many sweet, special quotes from the books.
