When I left for grad school two years ago, my amazing mom gave me the sweetest parting gift. She painstakingly colored a massive picture of Pooh and Tigger, printed out that quote, and glued it in the corner. Immediately, I melted into a blubbering, hysterical mess, second-guessing whether I should move by myself to a city where I knew exactly one person. When I finally regained my composure, I admitted that grad school was the right next step for me and reminded myself that home would only be two hours away.
So, with my heartfelt gift in hand, I moved the contents of my life into a tiny studio apartment in downtown Indianapolis. Two years later, a day doesn't go by where I don't look at this picture and smile.
And thanks to the difficult events of the last year, I have finally realized that my mom is right. I am brave. I am smart. But most surprisingly, I am strong. Stronger than I ever thought I could be. Oh, and my mom? She is always with me, firmly planted in the depths of my heart.

"You never know how strong you are until strong is the only choice you have." Love you/Miss you!
ReplyDelete...And now I'm crying.
ReplyDeleteWe both had the same quote - great minds think alike!
ReplyDeleteWinnie The Pooh is a genius indeed...
What a lovely story that goes alongside yours, lovely to read
What a lovely gift, I can imagine that would be so special. My aunt and uncle used to read Winnie the Pooh to me before bed as a child and I remember so many sweet, special quotes from the books.
ReplyDeleteThis is so, so sweet!
