T-Minus Three Days until Friday!

Wheat and I finally had the kind of weekend that we've been dreaming about for months: the spontaneous, completely free kind. Seriously, no plans at all - unless you consider watching playoff hockey and basketball 'plans' - and it was absolutely glorious.

I read half of Paper Towns, we cuddled and fell asleep by accident, and we watched so many games that you'd think we were gambling junkies in a Vegas sportsbook. Playoff hockey and basketball filled the TV screen while Orioles baseball streamed on his computer nearby and we just relaxed. My ailing body desperately needed it.

Unlike most weeks, I actually had to work on Friday, so I attempted to ease my disappointment at missing a dear friend's bridal shower in Ohio by stuffing my face with Bru Burger. It mostly worked, despite my inability to properly smell or taste anything. Curse this lingering upper respiratory infection. I took Wheat as a congratulatory dinner for surviving yet another Pacers season, but let's be real - it's also my favorite restaurant in town.

After dinner, we spontaneously decided to buy tickets for the John Mulaney standup show at Old National Centre and I think it was our best last-second decision in ages. We ended up with seats in the sixth row and were even more pleased to learn that the money we spent on the tickets was donated entirely to a gay rights charity, thanks to the recent uproar over RFRA. Seaton Smith opened the show and warmed us up nicely for Mulaney, who was just as funny as I remember from his Netflix specials. He was a writer for SNL for several years and co-created Stefon with Bill Hader, but his humor is actually very relatable. I also loved that he was able to make fun of himself for the recent cancellation of his self-titled sitcom on Fox.

A large part of Saturday was spent outside because the perfect, spring weather and the scent of the flowers blossoming along the canal practically forced us. We walked to the opposite end of the canal, holding hands and people-watching, before eating a late lunch at Fresco, the precious Italian cafe near our apartment. Have I mentioned that I love living downtown again? We devoured pizza and Italian Ice and even spotted a helmeted Pacer (CJ Watson) doing a Segway tour of the canal.

The rest of the night consisted of a Penguins playoff win and a celebratory late-night meal at Steak 'n Shake. Yes, of course we had milkshakes. We're not animals.

Despite the rain on Sunday, we decided to brave the elements and check out the Indianapolis Bridal Show at Scottish Rite Cathedral. Even though we hated explaining to everyone that we're getting married in Cincinnati, we liked checking out the vendors and sampling the cake. The biggest highlight of the event was probably scoping out the inside of the gorgeous building that I've been drooling over since I moved here.

A Grizzlies win, a long nap, and an episode of Game of Thrones later, I found myself facing yet another Monday. Surely these weekdays must get easier as time goes on, right?

  6. The standup show sounds awesome! The Halifax Comedy Fest is going on right now, so I'm hoping to catch a show tonight. I pretty much always have a comedy show playing in the background right now. There are SO many on Netflix and I don't think I've actually watched any John Mulaney ones yet, so I'll have to see if they're available on the Canadian version. Happy Friday!
