Another taste of the Special Sauce

A couple months ago, I found out that G. Love & Special Sauce was coming to Madison Theater in Covington, Kentucky. Since G. Love is an inductee into the Man Meat Hall of Fame, I assumed that I'd go.

However, as the concert day drew closer and closer, I didn't buy tickets. I had already seen G. Love once this year at the DMB Caravan, I'm not too familiar with his new CD Fixin' to Die, and Jenn had to work early on Saturday morning. I tried to win free tickets from G. Love on Twitter, but I lost by 17 seconds. Ouch.

Yesterday, I was starting to feel the sting of being so close to G, yet so far away. He uploaded a picture of himself overlooking Cincinnati from Drees Pavilion.

In anguish, I resigned myself to a Friday night of Extreme Makeover Home Edition and tweeted this:

When the concert started at 9:00, I couldn't tell if I was crying because of the family's reaction when the bus moved or because I was missing G. Love. After a couple deep sighs, I told myself I was absolutely not going to the show, unless G. Love himself told me to go.

Then, he did.

So, I went.

I picked Jenn up and drove like a woman possessed to Madison Theater. We bought tickets at the door and made our way as close as possible. We missed the entire opening band (Apache Relay) and part of G. Love's set, but the show was incredible. I can't find the setlist, but I know he did:

Fixin' to Die
Hot Cookin'
Kick Drum
Baby's Got Sauce
Holla
This Ain't Livin'
Milk and Cereal
Booty Call
Folsom Prison Blues (with Apache Relay)
Peace, Love, and Happiness

There is nothing quite like G. Love & Special Sauce. Their perfect mixture of Philly hip-hop and Southern blues transports you somewhere else. The setlist was awesome, the energy was great, and I don't even think I need to say it, but G looked good.

Best last-minute decision ever.
