| In case you're wondering, Minions was disappointing, Ant Man was great, and this friend is awesome. |
We booked a DJ and a photo booth. We registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I asked why we would ever need two slotted serving spoons (The answer, by the way, was one for casual eating and another for fancy dinners, as if we ever host those). I had an appointment to have my wedding dress altered. The seamstress asked why it was so wrinkly (The answer, by the way, was my sister's closet finally caved in on itself, leaving my precious girl in a crumpled mess on the floor). We attempted and abandoned two different centerpiece ideas. We made a lot of progress on our wedding favors and decorations for the big day.
All in all, we finally feel like we've stopped playing catch-up. We're starting to focus on the details rather than big-ticket items and that's both fun and expensive. I was a little blind-sided by the hefty price tag of my dress alteration, which really didn't require much altering (just hemming and a bustle). Also during my alteration appointment: I stabbed myself with a pin and vowed to lose at least five pounds before the wedding...then stuffed my face with Five Guys immediately afterward. Oops.
I want to share all of the things we worked on, but it's top secret material until after the big day. I do have a few questions, though, for my wiser, wedded blogger and real-life friends:
- Are there places that allow you to rent pre-made centerpieces? I've entertained glorious dreams of sporty centerpieces loaded with gorgeous flowers, then remembered I'm not a millionaire. Everything we've tried to do on the cheap side looks super homemade, cheap, and reminiscent of a nine-year-old boy's birthday party. HELP.
- Flowers are the bane of my existence right now. I don't have a thousand dollars to spend on them. Can I get a bridal bouquet from the floral department at Kroger? This is a serious question.
- If you attended a wedding where dessert was cupcakes, not cake, how many would you eat?
- What is the one thing you wish you had remembered on your big day? I know I'm forgetting something...
When I think about all the detailed things we have left to do, it's easy to freak out, but for the most part, I think we're feeling kind of like this right now:
Here's to hoping the progress continues and the planning for our fun day stays fun.

If you believe it, we spent less than $80 on our flowers... that includes bouquets, corsages, and decoration. We just got ours from Wegmans and put them together ourselves. Really pretty easy! Just keep your flower selection simple. If there was one thing I wish we had on our wedding day... more FOOD! David and I were both so worked up with emotions and what not that we didn't eat during dinner! Make sure to put aside some food for later! You'll need it :)
ReplyDeleteMy best piece of advice: keep it simple! The less the better... especially since you'll be stuck with it afterwards :)
we had cupcakes instead of cake, and it worked out so, so well. it was a tiered thing, and the very top was an actual cake so that we could 'cut the cake' and then keep it for our one year anniversary. we had 200 guests, and i think we ordered 275 cupcakes. there were only a few left over :)
ReplyDeleteOMG- just wrote the longest comment ever and it went away. But I am dedicated so I'll write it again ;)
ReplyDeleteI know some places DO rent things for centerpieces, but I'm not sure where exactly that place would be. Definitely ask your reception hall if they have anything- sometimes places don't offer things up but might have some things you could use free of charge! That's what we ended up doing. We also went as affordably as possible on flowers- bc those prices are outrageous. If you have a set amount you know you can/want to spend on flowers- I say just speak up. Any good florist should be able to come up with something beautiful that fits your price range. They'll know what's in season/less expensive and how they can build something that matches your vision as well as your wallet. Cupcakes? I would eat one! The only thing I regret it a few photos I didn't get. Our photographer even asked me at the end of the night if there were any other pics I needed before she left, but I was partying/dancing/hanging with my new groom and our friends and told her no. If I'd stopped to think for a second, I would have grabbed a more candid photo with a few guests... My grandpa in particular, and my ring bearer who normally is SO shy but was out on the dance floor having a blast. Not the end of the world in the grand scheme of things because we have 100s of amazing photos, but just a quick reminder at the end of the night if there's someone you want a quick memory with ;)
Such an exciting update! Sounds like you have the best perspective on things and it's really all about the MARRIAGE after the WEDDING! :)

So many secrets I want to spoil! Things are lining up beautifully :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you guys are making great progress! The price of flowers blew me away when we started looking for our wedding. We got a pretty good deal but it was still way more than I expected to spend! I wish I'd gotten a second lip gloss and had my sister keep it in her purse. I lost mine before we even got to the church and I LOVE lipgloss and was so sad I couldn't reapply! It sounds silly now but it was a big deal on my wedding day! Also, have a sewing kit. Hopefully you won't need it, but my wedding dress ripped between the ceremony and reception and I was so thankful for my mom and my sewing kit! :)
ReplyDeleteYou two make a great team! I have absolutely zero expertise in the realm of weddings, so I'm just going to say that it sounds like you're doing an amazing job and it's going to turn out beautifully! I can't wait to see and hear all about it when the time comes. I sort of helped one of my friends with her wedding and then she decided to elope because it was all getting to be too much, so that's my only experience. Well, that and I've thrown a bachelorette party. I'm good at that!
ReplyDeleteLet me just say, we had a small cake for the bridal party and family and us, and EVERYONE ate the cupcakes instead. We had about 200+ cupcakes and they were all gone by the end of the night. No one even ate the cake, it was ridiculous LOL! I'd say one per person for that ;) as far as flowers go, keep it simple. We only splurged on my bouquet and the bridal party flowers. The centerpieces were FAKE and amazing :) you can definitely keep it gorgeous, yet affordable.
ReplyDeleteWow your wedding is going to be here in NO time!! And my advice is not to waste money on a bunch of flowers. I went for fairly simple and actually used a mix of pictures and flowers as my centerpieces. The only flowers that really matter are your bouquet and the bridesmaids because they are in pictures. Good luck! XO
