The good stuff, according to Kenny Chesney.

Life has been really tough and weird lately. Without going into details, I've never been more stressed in my life. Once everything finally settles down, I'll put my frustrations/issues into words because you know I love to keep it real on the blog.

At any rate, I've also had a few really awesome moments wedged between the panic attacks and tears that have comprised the last couple weeks. Since those are easy to talk about and I think it's healthy for me to focus on the positives, I'll share those with you before I get to the heavy stuff.

Wheat and I went home last weekend and it was lovely. Aside from a visit to the chiropractor on Saturday, we did absolutely nothing and the comfortable laziness and home-cooked meals were just what I needed.

Sunday, however, the whole family ventured down to Cincinnati to browse Findlay Market for the very first time. Somehow, we only left with a jar of sweet and spicy barbeque sauce, but I absolutely loved the place. It filled me with brief fantasies of living in OTR, walking to the market with my basket, and filling it with fresh items for that night's dinner. Then, I remembered I never cook and barely get myself to Kroger once a month. Ugh.

Something about markets is so romantic to me, aside from the live lobsters that always break my heart. I was tempted to set them free, but a) didn't want to touch them and b) couldn't find an environment where they'd survive much longer than the tank they were already in. Double ugh.

Mommles and I tried some fruit and cream waffles from Taste of Belgium. Shockingly, I was a little underwhelmed. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I will admit that creating a waffle that doesn't require syrup is a tall order. Afterward, we devoured cookies 'n cream popsicles that were light and tasty, but paled in comparison to those from Nashville's Las Paletas. Fortunately, I will probably have the opportunity to crush a couple of those this weekend!

After the market and a quick stroll through Washington Park, we ventured to Drake Planetarium in Norwood for a Pink Floyd laser light show. The planetarium, which is housed within Norwood High School, wasn't really a planetarium from what I could tell, but the show was entertaining and the music was great. I wish the volume had been a bit higher, but it was fun to relax while watching laser projections set to "Comfortably Numb," "Money," and "Wish You Were Here."

On Tuesday night, Wheat and I battled the elements to see John Fogerty at White River State Park. Although the show was delayed for over an hour and parts of the set weren't working due to the weather, the concert was excellent. We hunkered down on free chairs, set up our umbrella between us, and listened to some Creedence Clearwater Revival classics. Fogerty still sounds great, despite his age, and he told us sentimental stories about how he met his wife in Indianapolis.

Personal highlights of the show? Hearing "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" while sharing an umbrella with the man of my dreams and Wheat correctly predicting a walk-off home run from Manny Machado in the 12th inning during "Centerfield."

I wish he had performed "Susie Q" and "I Heard it Through the Grapevine," but the show was abbreviated due to the late start. Here was the killer setlist:

Travelin' Band
Green River
Who'll Stop the Rain
Born on the Bayou
Lodi
Lookin' Out My Back Door
Hot Rod Heart
Ramble Tamble
Somebody Help Me
Joy of My Life
Midnight Special
Gunslinger
Mystic Highway
Long as I Can See the Light
Have You Ever Seen the Rain?
New Orleans
Night Time is the Right Time
Keep On Chooglin'
Down on the Corner
Centerfield
Up Around the Bend
The Old Man Down the Road
Fortunate Son

Bad Moon Rising
Proud Mary

Special moments like these have kept me teetering on the brink of sanity the last couple weeks, so I can't even explain how grateful I am to have these wonderful people in my life.

  1. I love Findlay Market! But, I was totally spoiled in Columbus with the Short North's market. Have you been there? If not, I am sensing another day trip in your futuro.

True life: I would LOVE to live in OTR. There are so many great bars and restaurants down there; it has a great little scene going on! But, I would hate to reverse-commute to Lebanon everyday. Don't know. Alex and I have talked about it, but ehhhhh. Still a great place to visit though!
