A Wonderful Wisconsin Wedding.

This weekend, Wheat and I packed our bags and drove to Wisconsin for my cousin Corbin's wedding. After some frustrating Chicago traffic and a quick stop at our favorite candy store in the world, we made it in time for the rehearsal dinner.

My awesome aunt and uncle converted their garage into the coolest hangout spot in the world - complete with a projection screen, a fully-stocked bar, arcade games, a giant shuffleboard, and a bathroom with a urinal. Unreal. It was lovely to catch up with my family, eat a delicious meal, and relax in such a cool, comfortable space.

That night, we stayed at my grandparents' gorgeous house in Beaver Dam and watched the Kings win the Stanley Cup. Miami grad Alec Martinez scored the series-winner in overtime, so I was ecstatic. Love and honor. Before leaving for the ceremony the next afternoon, we made time to admire the lake and take some pictures.

The ceremony itself was gorgeous. It was held in a beautiful church on the immaculate grounds of a military school, so we watched troops march in formation before and after the wedding. The weather was perfect and the ceremony was so Corbin - heartfelt with a touch of goofiness.

After the ceremony, we made our way to the Olympia Resort, the site of the reception and our hotel for the night. Everything about the night was wonderful, really. The dancing, the speeches, the video of Corbin and Andrea, the food, the photo booth. It was really special for my mom to spend time with her family. She hasn't seen any of them since her diagnosis and I know she drew so much strength and support from them all weekend long.

There were so many awesome personal touches at the reception. Corbin chose many of the songs, mostly dubstep (which made for a European rave-type of dance party). He is an awesome wakeboarder, so they had the perfect cake topper for their delicious cake.

I must admit - It was a bit surreal to see Corbin get married. He is 18 days younger than me and definitely considered the 'wild' one in the family. I just can't believe we're old enough for all of this. I am so happy that he found such a perfect match in Andrea. She's the absolute sweetest and they truly deserve their happily ever after.

She's obviously gorgeous.

When Wheat and I finally decided to call the partying quits, we headed back to our hotel room for the night. Apparently, the party raged on without us. When the reception ended, the celebration simply moved to the club inside the hotel and from there, the details get fuzzy.

I wasn't the only tired one.

Long story short: We spent two unanticipated hours in urgent care the next morning because my sister fell and destroyed her ankle. The good news? It's not broken. The bad news? I got to carry her everywhere all afternoon, except for the brief time she was pushed in a wheelchair.

After a shortened Father's Day celebration, we said our goodbyes and hit the road, but we stopped in Grayslake on the way home to spend time with Matt, Andrea, and Lily. The town is adorable, a quaint Pleasantville-type place with a nostalgic feel. Between the pulled pork nachos, World Cup soccer, a hometown ice cream joint, and a few hours with my little bestie, I'd say it was a success.

Seriously, guys: Why do the weekends fly by while the weekdays crawl at an infinitely glacial pace? Someone needs to look into this sorcery.

  1. What a (mostly) wonderful weekend! Shamie certainly earned that nickname, though.
