Low-key weekends can happen.

What? A weekend recap on a Monday? What is this sorcery?

Honestly, the only reason why this is up in a timely manner is because this is the first weekend in a long time where we actually had downtime...and it was really nice. Wheat didn't actually have much downtime - he had a home game on Friday and an away game on Saturday - but I soaked up the lack of plans. I've been feeling nauseous and lousy lately, so I took the last few days as an opportunity to relax. The weekend lacked any formal schedule, so it was mostly a mish-mash of happy things, including:

- Lots of sleep. Lots and lots of it.
- Walks on the canal. The last couple days have been gorgeous, so we got out on the canal to admire the view.

- Burritos, gourmet cupcakes served in Chinese food boxes, and a Cajun lunch.
- Whiplash, which I highly recommend. JK Simmons was devilish and Miles Teller was fantastic.
- Vacuuming and laundry. I had to catch up at some point.
- A stroll through the City Market that ended with lunch on the balcony.

- Some college basketball and NHL games while cuddling on the couch.
- Veal's Ice Tree, which kind of defies explanation. The Veal family has been creating this spectacle in their backyard every winter since 1961 and it's absolutely awe-inspiring. The colors are gorgeous and the way the ice reflects the sunlight is mesmerizing. This year, it grew to be 50-feet tall, but last year it was over 80 feet! I can't believe that such an amazing treasure is tucked away off I-74.

- The Walking Dead and cookie pie. Of course these two things go together.

...and as always, I was constantly reminded that even when I'm not feeling well or when I'm worried about whatever life has thrown at us, my situation is infinitely better with Wheat in it.

How was your weekend?
Do you know of any awesome hidden treasures in your neck of the woods?

  2. Oh my, that tree is amazing! I've never seen anything quite like that. Looks like something out of a Disney movie, which is always a good thing. Hope you're feeling better! I wasn't feeling the best over the weekend either, but the hint of spring we've been getting is definitely a pick-me-up. Beautiful pictures of the canal!
